Exercise 1- Detail & Tone

Peppers detail and tone

Worked in coloured pencil to build up the detail of colour, tone and shadows in this drawing on brown paper.   Moving the mark making, cross hatching more effectively round the drawing and the object are becoming more alive because of it.   More able to produce the effects of the light bouncing off the skin of the peppers as well as more depth in the inside of the vegetables.

I think that the drawing itself is more precise that I have achieved previously although the half yellow pepper in the back is not as effective as it could be.

Learning: Taking time to build up the objects pays off but even so probably could have spent more time on this too.   I like the way the brown paper stands in for a tone in itself and helps to define the composition.

I need to do more of this kind of drawing and be inventive with mark making.
